Energy Community organization announced that Albania will head Community’s Secretariat for 2015, as being a contracting party of the Treaty since July 1, 2006. Almost all European countries are members of Energy Community Treaty for the purpose of implementing policies that provide a liberalized market toward member countries.
Head of Commission for Producing Activities and at the same time SP MP, Eduart Shalesi, declared that Albania during its lead will propose changes for the Energy Treaty, but before it is needed the full implementation of energy reform by Albania, by implementing third energy package reforms.
The third energy package is set by the European Union and it has been approved by Albanian Council of Ministers by a law. This law predicts a further market liberalization, policies in protecting consumers and a clear definition of the function and the role of energy operators in country.
In 2014, Albania started implementing a package of reforms in the energy sector, setting as main objectives and goals to achieve the reduction of loses in network and the increase of energy payment by Albanian citizens.
