A new opportunity for the export of potatoes made in Kukes county, after the announcement of a joint collaboration between Albania, Turkey, Netherlands and Kosovo. Potatoes that cultivate in Shishtavec village and in some regions of Kosovo will have as a destination the markets of Turkey and Netherlands. During the presentation of this initiative, the Minister of Agriculture Edmond Panariti declared that the increase of exports for this agricultural product, will have an immediate impact in the increase of farmers’ economy.
As a consequence, this will have a positive impact in the development of the area of Shishtavec, said the Minister. “This project will be confinanced by the Albanian government which is the main contributor in the creation of this chain of values. We aim to create an integrated system of the infrastructure development”, said Panariti. He promised the construction of irrigation canals in order to improve the infrastructure.
During the presentation of the project, the Albanian ambassador in Kosovo Qemal Minxhozi considered this initiative as the end of the problematic noticed in the recent years regarding the export of potatoes. According to him, this joint project between Albania and Kosovo will increase the economic collaboration of two countries.
In turn, the Mayor of Kukes county has evaluated this project as very important by adding that only during 2014, about 554 hectares of land have been planted with potatoes and crops are expected to reach about 12 thousand tons.
