TIRANA, September 27
A draft-law on Albania’s visa policy was issued for consultation by the Interior and Finance ministries. Among others, the bill foresees the establishment of appropriate mechanisms for issuing e-visas. The bill aims to offer a solution to issues associated with the lack of diplomatic missions in different countries.
“The proposed changes to the visa policy aims to integrate the operating systems in all the institutions responsible for the verification and approval of all visa applications. It will reduce the time for visa process applications,” the bill report highlights.
If passed, the bill defines that for the first visa application, foreign citizens have to apply in person at the diplomatic mission or consulate. Following the first application, the foreign citizen can apply for an online e-visa for 59 months.
The e-visa application would:
Reduce the waiting time for the visa to be processed
Ease the application process for international citizens
Cut the visa label/sticker costs
Have a positive impact on the number of international visitors and tourists
