TIRANA, June 10
A call that aims at upgrading two existing buildings into administrative centers in Tirana is now open for proposals by Albanian and international teams. The call launched by the government of Albania and the Albanian Investment in cooperation with the National Territorial Planning Agency solicits design proposals for a project that is expected to serve as the infrastructural backbone for the future of Albanian public administration.
The first building combines various state institutions into one single multifunctional cluster. Meanwhile, the second building will be a commercial development.
The contract for both buildings will be awarded to one private investor/s. The open international design competition is organized in two phases. In stage one, candidates will introduce their team, qualifications, work approach, and vision for both sites. In stage two, the jury will appraise the proposals and select the winning one. The winner will be chosen based on their submission and in-person presentation.
The winning team will be awarded the contract after negotiations, timeframes, and deliverables.
Based on the official announcement, each shortlisted team will be awarded Euro 40,000 for submitting the concept design proposal. The winning team will discount the above-mentioned reward for the execution design fee.
In terms of eligibility, the call is open to teams experienced in architectural and urban development work that meet the criteria outlined in the call documents. They also have to be registered or recognized by an official accreditation body or be a member of a professional institution in their country of practice.
The call aims for innovative and forward-thinking designs.
The deadlines are 5 July for stage one and August 26th for stage two.
