Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri is holding an official visit to Kosovo in the framework of the first meeting of Steering Committee for the establishment of Albania – Kosovo joint electrical energy market.
The first meeting which took place in Pristina capital, was held by the Kosovar Minister of Economic Development, Blerand Stavileci and was attended by representatives of current operators in countries’ energy markets.
After the meeting, the two counterparts held a joint press conference at which they declared the conclusions of discussions. Gjiknuri declared that “the establishment of a joint electrical energy market is not only possible but will also be beneficial to both countries”. While the Kosovar Minister Stavileci declared that “Kosovo has thermal capacities and Albania is rich in hydropower resources. The construction of new generating capacities in Albania and Kosovo are necessary at this time”. This is the main reason, added Stavileci, we are establishing this joint market.
During the meeting were taken several important decisions as the creation of the Joint Stemming Committee, headed by respective Ministries and the creation of a joint teamwork which will coordinate the establishment of this project.
Part of the Albanian delegation which is headed by the Minister of Energy and Industry, are the Head of the Albania’s Regulatory Bureau Petrit Ahmetaj, the administrators of the OSHEE retail power distributor Adrian Cela, Transmission System Operator Engjell Zeqo and the administrator of the Albanian Electrical Energy Corporation, Agron Hetoja.
