The Albanian and Kosovo Ministries of Finances will sign a joint agreement for the establishment of a joint customs office. The decision of the two governments was announced during the meeting of Albanian Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani and his Kosovar counterpart Abdullah Hoti. The two counterparts discussed on intensifying Albania – Kosovo cooperation in trade exchanges, in the simplification of procedures in custom points and other topics regarding trade and economic development.
The opening of a joint customs office will make possible the processing of customs’ declarations in the same virtual system. The pairs also agreed in creating a joint team work for the coordination of cooperation between countries’ custom points and administrations, to define the custom procedures and the legislation. Another important task of this joint teamwork will be the application of procedures for the removal of double control in respective custom points.
During the meeting, the two Ministers agreed in harmonizing the tax policies for the so called “strong” merchandise and to solve the problem of terminals in Kosovo which create extra costs for Albanian exporting companies.
In 2014, the trade volume of trade exchanges between Albania and Kosovo was estimated to be at a value of 177 million euros. The amount of imports from Kosovo during the year we left, has been 42.6 million euros.
