TIRANA, June 29
The 400kV Energy Highway line between Albania and Kosovo was inaugurated on Tuesday. The project with a value Euro 78 million stretches for 241.1 km and it was financed by the German Development Bank KfW half as a grant and half as a loan. The inauguration ceremony was held in Kashar, Tirana area, and it was attended by Prime Ministers of Albania and Kosovo Edi Rama and Isa Mustafa, who considered the finalization of the project as a new project for the integration of Albania in new other important sectors.
“This project which gathered us here today is the strongest indicator on the great potentials that both countries have. This is a joint strategic project that shows how much we have done in the past and will do,” PM Rama said.
On his part, Kosovo’s PM Isa Mustafa highlighted that the transmission line fulfils the promises on a power system that will meet the market electricity needs.
The construction of the power line started in 2014 and the Albanian part, which is 151.1 km long costed Euro 42 million. This new line will provide an exchange of electricity between Albania and Kosovo in cases of power shortages. Hydro Power Plants are the main source of electricity in Albania while Kosovo depends on coal-fired electricity.
