Press Freedom Index of Reporters Without Borders have published the annual report on media freedom for 180 countries worldwide, showing a positive ranking of Albania in the list. Compared to the previous year’s ranking, Albania improved its position by three places.
The annual report has ranked Albania the 82nd while as shown in the list, Kosovo had made regress in terms of media freedom, since dropped by 7 places, being ranked the 87th, compared to a year before.
The index takes in consideration several indicators and criteria in compiling and analyzing the media freedom in a specific country, that include media independence and pluralism, journalists’ integrity and freedom of expression, the legislative platform for media, the institutional and infrastructural conditions in which medias operate, ect.
Albania counts about 100 or more independent media which include televisions, newspapers, radio and digital platforms, currently operating in country. Many projects have been implemented in strengthening the freedom of expression for media in general and journalists in particular. During 2014, there was not recorded any attack or lack of independence in this respect, but the corruption still influences some of the media platforms.
