TIRANA, April 4
Albania expects an increased number of visitors during the new tourist season. This is the reason why Albania approved visa-free travel for citizens from nine countries from the eastern countries. The country waits for more visitors especially from China as they flock in record numbers to the European capitals every year.
Chinese Ambassador to Tirana, Jiang Yu praised Albania as a destination for Chinese tourists during a meeting with the media on Tuesday. She said that some 10,000 Chinese citizens visited Albania during the last year, but this is a small figure compared to three million Chinese tourists that visited Italy and one million tourists that visited Greece.
The Ambassador said that Chinese tour agencies are promoting Albania as a tourist destination in China.
Asked about the type of tourism that Chinese travelers prefer, the Ambassador said that they are interested in cultural and nature tourism. Visitors like to explore the cities of Kruja and Gjirokastra due to their epic history and also because ‘Ngadhnjim mbi Vdekjen” film was shot in Gjirokastra.
Ambassador Jiang Yu said that China is interested in a regional policy on tourism that includes the countries of the Balkan region.
“Regional tourism is more successful and Albania will gain priority,” the Ambassador said.
