The Albanian government and the World Bank signed the agreement on the co-financing of the maintenance and road safety project, financed with EUR 65.9 ml by the World Bank and with EUR 41.2 ml by the Albanian government.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Finances Shkelqim Cani and the representative of the World Bank to Albania, Tahseen Sayed, at the Ministry of Finances’ headquarters.
The Minister of Finances declared that the reached agreement will be very beneficial to Albania in terms of finances and praised the continuous support of the World Bank in the development of the infrastructure in the country.
Present in the ceremony was also the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Edmond Haxhinasto which highlighted that the loan taken from the World Bank will finance the maintenance of 1400 km roads throughout the country. The implementation of this project, added the Minister, will improve the life of the locals and the decrease of the number of road accidents. “Every penny spent for the maintenance of roads offers more safety for our citizens,” declared Haxhinasto.
While, the representative of the World Bank said that local authorities should work harder in the improvement of the road infrastructure. This project will be implemented by the Ministry of Transports with the support of the National Authority of Roads and is predicted to finalize on December 31st, 2021.
