“Albania aims to become an important hub of the southern gas corridor”, according to the Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri. On May 29th, the Minister held a speech at the NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly, at the Committee for Science and Technology, where he emphasized the importance of diversifying energy sources. “Albania will promote solar and wind energy, starting from 2017,” according to Gjiknuri.
Speaking about the Southern Gas Corridor, Gjiknuri highlighted the importance of the diversification of energy sources and the improvement of the road infrastructure in order to make the Southern gas corridor an electric energetic highway for the region.
According to the Minister, “the energy issue is a safety issue because the dependence of Europe on gas increased due to the lack of stability and many countries that are energy sources have gone to conflicts with other countries.”
