According to statistics published by the Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural exports increased significantly during the first semiannual of this year. The amount of exports reached the value of ALL 4.4 billion during this period, about twice more than last year (ALL 2.9 billion in 2014).
Vegetables have been the most exported products to the international markets, according to official figures, reaching the amount of ALL 2.1 billion while at the same period of a year ago exports brought only ALL 946 million revenues. In 2015, Albanian farmers exported 44 thousand tons of vegetables while in 2014 they exported 27 thousand tons.The most exported products have been onions and tomatoes, while exports of watermelon and melon doubled, reaching the amount of 12 thousand tons.
Experts say that the significant increase of agriculture products’ exports has come due to the government’s efforts in finding new markets for Albanian farmers and supporting them with grants and subsidies.
