TIRANA, September 20
The Alliance against Waste Import (AKIP) organized a protest on Monday evening in front of the Prime Minister’s Office. The participants in the demonstration gathered to express their stance against the changes to the law on solid waste import. They called on the Parliament to not pass those changes, which would open the way to waste import for recycling companies.
One of the activists, Lavdosh Feruni said that over 65,000 signatures that were collected over four years ago for the referendum and other poll results showed that the majority of Albanians stands against solid waste import.
It is expected that the Parliament will adopt during this week the changes to the law on the integrated management of solid waste. This would meet the needs of the recycling industry.
The ruling majority with the adoption of those changes to the law will move back from the first decision that it approved in 2013, which was the ban on solid waste import.
