The Albanian Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications has announced the start of the competition for four 900 MHz frequency bands. According to the announcement, these frequencies can be used for GSM telephony services. The initial price for these frequencies starts from 20.000 EUR and the offered amount from telecommunication operators will be the only selection criteria for the issuance of the right of use of these frequencies.
The official announcement states that the issuance of the licenses for 900MHz frequencies will be organized in three evaluation stages, in order to create the opportunity for all the operators to benefit from the new frequencies.
The new regulatory of the Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications foresees that each operator cannot have the right of the usage for more than one frequency for each offersβ round and no more than three frequencies in total.
In the Albanian market are currently four telecommunication operators which provide services for cell phone users, Vodafone Albania, Eagle Mobile, Albanian Broadcast Communications and Plus Communications (the only Albanian owned company).
