Saint Thanasi Church, another tourism attraction in Divjake-Karavasta National Park

Treasures in Divjaka-Karavasta National Park are endless. The park is a display of a rich ecosystem of endangered species such as the Dalmatian Pelican and other animals. Divjake-Karavasta National Park has been visited by thousands of tourists this year, and now a cult object has been added to the list of spots to-visit in this park. It comes to the Saint Thanasi Church, built in 1778 and located near to Karavasta Lagoon.

The church was restored lately and the church objects still remain in good condition after being restored and cleaned. In 1979 two painters Gjergj and Joan Katro draw frescoes in church’s walls.  The ceiling is made by coniferous wood, decorated with floral motifs and partly carved in the main rosettes pained with the portrait of Christ in the center and the portrait of Saint Thanasi.

According to the locals, the church has tremendous cultural and religious values for the area and is rapidly transforming into a preferred tourism site in Divjake-Karavasta National Park.
