World Bank Board of Executive Directors has approved a $32 ml grant for Albania in the framework of “Project for offering services to citizens”, a project that aims to improve the quality and the access of citizens to administrative services in Albania. The grant will be given by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
According to an analysis made by the World Bank for Albania, the manner the government offers public services to its citizens is seen as a barrier in a faster and stable development of the country. The new project is similar to a package of reforms introduced by the government, known as “Innovation to fight corruption” launched on June 2014. Some of the key objectives of this reform is the establishment of a one stop shop center in Tirana and the increase of the electronic governmental services as well as the process of digitalization in the state administration.
According to Tahseen Sayed, World Bank representative in Albania, “the project aims to support the government’s reforms in order to have a wider extend and to be comprehensive. By increasing the transparency and improving the manner the government offers services to citizens, the new project strengthens the framework of the partnership for Albania, approved lately.”
The implementation of this project worth $32ml will reduce costs and the operation time for citizens and the government at the same time and reduced the extension of corruption in the state administration. The project will establish a review mechanism through which the citizens will evaluate the performance of the platform of public services.
The institutional reforms which aim to reduce corruption are set as priority by the European Union for the Albanian government.
