The increased number of tourists during the summer season has affected positively in strengthening the Albanian Lek currency, say experts. The Albanian Lek has performed positively towards Euro and US Dollar currencies, according to the official currency of Bank of Albania. One dollar was exchanged by ALL 0.91 less on Wednesday and experts attribute this with the coming of foreigners and Albanian emigrants as well in Albania for tourism purposes.
Foreign tourists from around the world, Albanian returned emigrants and Kosovar tourists are an important source of incomes for Albanian businesses during the summer season and this has a direct impact in the Albanian Lek. Albania welcomes more than one million tourists each year, mostly from European countries.
Being aware of the importance of tourism sector in the Albanian economy, the government has presented lately a new law on tourism which got the parliament’s approval but it has not been yet published in the Official Bulletin, waiting for the approval of the President Bujar Nishani.
