In a recent report, the Albanian Financial Supervisory Authority declared that investments funds increased during the first semiannual of this year, reaching the amount of ALL 67.4 billion or 5,85% more than in January of this year. Being a new investment platform licensed by the end of 2011, investment funds now count more than 34 thousand member subjects, mostly individuals. Most of the investments are investments with low risk, mostly bonds and governmental treasury bonds.
Currently, Albania has only two investment funds, “Raiffeisen Prestige” and “Raiffeisen Invest” for investments in Euro and Albanian Lek. These platforms developed rapidly and have attracted the interest of several financial institutions and actors in the market.
According to the definition of Investopia, an investment fund is “A supply of capital belonging to numerous investors that is used to collectively purchase securities while each investor retains ownership and control of his or her own shares. An investment fund provides a broader selection of investment opportunities, greater management expertise and lower investment fees than investors might be able to obtain on their own. Types of investment funds include mutual funds, exchange traded funds, money market funds and hedge funds.”
