Work has begun in the Port of Vlora for the improvement and the modernization of it. A new investment by the Italian Cooperation in Albania worth EUR 15 million will transform the Port by increasing its processing capacities in order to withstand the increased number of travelers and merchandise.
The project is part of the Italian Cooperation project in the field of transport and infrastructure in Albania for which the Italian government will invest a sum of EUR 100 ml in different projects. This is a joint project between Albania and Italy which aims to transform and modernize the Port of Vlora within 3 years and adjust its activity and capacities with another ambitious project known as “Lungomare Promenade”.
Speaking about the investment, the Italian Council in Vlora city Stefano Bergesio declared that “the reconstruction and the expansion of port’s capabilities is an important step for the development of the city in the future.”
The master plan of the port has been compiled by an Italian studio and foresees the increase of anchoring capacities for processing ferries, the establishment of new Custom points, border police points and other services. The project will be implemented in four phases; three of these will be financed by the Italian Cooperation and the fourth by the Albanian government.
