SARED Grant Facility is a new Danish-German program which will give grants to Albanian agro businessmen has been launched by the German Embassy in a special ceremony with the participation of the Minister of Agriculture Edmond Panariti, the Denmark ambassador to Tirana, Mats Sandau-Jensen, representatives of businesses in the agriculture sectors, experts and media.
According to the speech given by the German ambassador to Tirana Hellmut Hoffmann in this regard, the program aims to provide financial grants to farmers in boosting the agricultural production. The program will be implemented in six counties and the total value of the program is approximately EUR 6.5 million.
The reasons why this program is being implemented in Albania relates to the necessity of the Albanian economy for the further development of the agriculture sector according to Hoffman, since “we are convinced that there is still much untapped potential” and secondly because “there has been and there continues to be close and long term cooperation between Germany and Albania in the agricultural and rural development field, “declared Hoffman.
The grants will be given by the Denmark government but the project will be implemented by GIZ German institution which operates since years in the country and has implemented several projects, mainly in the agriculture sector.
“While the Danish-German SARED project is very good news for small scale farmers and agribusinesses in six disadvantaged mountainous areas, the EU-German SARD project focuses on middle to large scale farms and agribusinesses,” stated the German ambassador.
Later he added, “I am very pleased that Denmark and Germany, two close EU partners, are working closely together in the field of rural development in Albania. The Danish-German SARED project will be complementary to the EU support.”
