Albanian Minister of Finances Shkelqim Cani and the Italian Ambassador to Tirana Massimo Gaiani presented in a ceremony the six winning proposals from the Ministries on behalf of the Italian Albanian Debt for Development Swap Program, among 36 project proposals. For the implementation of the six winning projects, the IADSA program will put in disposal an amount of EUR 2.5 million.
The Minister of Finances declared that the IADSA program finances projects in the education field, in tourism and health care projects. The project presented by the Ministry of Healthcare hit the highest scores, declared Cani. “The Italian – Albanian Dept for Development Swap Program is a concrete example which shows that the good will of two countries can bring real changes,” declared Minister Cani.
In addition, Cani defined the IADSA as one of the most efficient programs and that the winning projects meet the concrete needs of certain target groups and are equivalent to the government’s developing strategies.
In turn, the Italian ambassador declared that the two governments have started the negotiations for adding an extra EUR 20 million to the program after the successful first results of it, by increasing the amount of the program into EUR 40 million. “In the three last years we have awarded 24 projects at a value of EUR 11.5 million, projects regarding the vocational education, the sustainable tourism and the development of rural areas,” declared Gaiani.
The institutions whose projects were selected to be funded are the Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism, the Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Sport and the Ministry for Innovation and Public Administration.
