Albanian tech-innovation enthusiasts and entrepreneurs had the opportunity to participate in a innovative science and tech-dedicated event in the framework of Hello Tomorrow Challenge competition, hosted by the Albanian ambassador of Hello Tomorrow worldwide community, Aneida Bajraktari.
The event was held on Monday, February 23d 2015, at Tulla Culture Center. The Albanian Ambassador opened the event by giving information about the nonprofit initiative Hello Tomorrow, the mission, vision and three axes of action Hello Tomorrow has, in order to accomplish its mission; competition, conference and community.
During the discussions about the community there was a call for all to join this community, for people from different disciplines and of all ages collaborate continuously to take inventions out of the laboratory and transform them into valuable products for the societies.
The rules of the competition, guidelines and the nature of the ideas this competition si looking for, were presented by the Albania Chairwoman of Hello Tomorrow, Marsida Vishkurti. She also presented different established startups for every track of the competition so that the audience could better understand the tracks and be inspired about new innovative ideas: Food & Agriculture, Transport & Mobility, Materials & Manufacturing, Healthcare, Energy & Environment, and Information.
After the presentation of the event, the first speaker, Ergest Nako, began his presentation. Mr Nako has a background in information technology. He has a wide experience in the banking sector and has now recently been working for the Prime Minister Office in Albania. His presentation was about the importance of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship whose main focus is the development of innovative Mr. Nako talked a lot about investments in tech-entrepreneurship in Albania and all over the world. The world is investing in technology because that is the new future. Today, from top 10 valuable brands, 6 are technology based.
Then Mr. Nako presented to the audience some of the reasons the world is investing so much in the tech world. “This is one of those really risky sectors but as you know, the higher the risk, the higher the reward. “ The presentation was closed by talking about success stories in the innovative –tech entrepreneurship.
“If you have willpower, you will have a good product. If you have the passion, you will have a revolutionary product. Never stop making things with a lot of passion because this will differentiate you and your product from the others” – said Mr. Nako.
The second speaker was Serxhjo Lamaj, doctor of Physical Therapy. Mr. Lamaj is the CEO and founder of Fisiostatic, a physical therapy clinic in Albania and he also works in a Turkish hospital in Tirana.
His presentation was about the importance of using technological products and services in a very important field such as physiotherapy and the emerging technologies in this field nowadays. First part of the presentation was about what technology has cause to the people, damages we have while using technological products.
“When Apple presented IPAD to the public, all physical therapist were “happy” as their work would grow in the future. But since we cannot avoid the usage of the technological products, it’s again technology offering solutions to our field.”
According to Mr. Lamaj, physical therapists are beginning to experiment with consumer technologies such as smart phones, tablets and game consoles to see if these could help patients recover faster and more efficiently. Therapy can be more efficient because much of it can be done virtually, using technology as opposed to a physical therapist.
“Nowadays there are a lot of smartphone apps which can be used to track a home exercise program to help teach patients about their posture and body mechanics. The patients can even keep an online diary that we, therapist can check to make sure they are complying. Technology has affected physical therapy so much the last years” said Mr. Lamaj.
The third speaker was Gerti Boshnjaku, CEO and founder of “New Media Communications” an advertising agency. In the focus of his presentation was the evolution of the relation technology – business and how technology has changed our life and the way we make business nowadays.
Mr. Boshnjaku talked about the challenges that a tech business has nowadays in this technological world and how these kinds of businesses has to follow the rhythm with which the technology is developing otherwise they will find themselves out of the market.
“Think back to how business was done a few decades ago. There was no email, Internet, mobile marketing, telecommuting or smart phones. Innovations in technology have improved operations at companies of all sizes and helped turn small local businesses into global businesses.”
“Technology is making the world smaller every day by removing distance barriers, and this has large implications for the way we conduct business. We use e-mail to communicate and send files quickly to remote locations outside of an office, we are present in meetings through video conferences, we make financial transactions online, we even sign documents online, things that, 20 years ago, we never thought of.” – explained Mr. Boshnjaku. After the presentations, attendees had the possibility to network and share experiences with each other.
