The General Director of Customs, Elisa Spiropali announced in a Facebook update that she had submitted her resignation to the Minister of Finances, on Saturday (March 7). In her statement, Spiropali explains the reasons that led her to take this decision, after being the head of Customs for about one year and six months.
“A year and a half is not enough to make the balance of an undergoing work. But, I have given birth to my first child and I am asking for your understanding for this decision.” Spiropali praised the work done by the officials and her co-workers at the Customs, by pointing out the achievements of this institution during the time she was in charge.
“We undertook several important and necessary reforms as the administrative reform, the reform of procedures, the legislative reform and the anti corruption reform. We increased revenues of this institution through a systematic and uncompromised hard work in fighting corruption, fiscal evasion and contraband,” declared Spiropali in her Facebook statement.
After the resignation of Spiropali was declared, the Minister of Finances Shkelqim Cani presented in a press conference the temporary substituent of Spiropali, Mrs. Irena Beqiraj, currently Deputy Minister of Finances.
Cani declared: “There is no much left to say about the resignation of Spiropali. I thank the former General Director of Customs for her contribute, for the excellent collaboration and relations in the institutional level between the Ministry of Finances and Customs. Irena Beqiraj will hold this position until a new General Director of Customs will be appointed by the Minister of Finances.
