Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and his Kosovar counterpart Isa Mustafa inaugurated the joint custom transit between the two countries in Morine-Vermice border crossing.
Rama declared that “this is a day to remember because we end the era of long waiting lines, delays and barriers in Albania-Kosovo border crossing. These will reduce into 5 minutes delays. The establishment of a joint customs point has been our aim and now we are putting in life our purposes. The creation of a joint customs office will reduce costs and transform it into a sole procedure.”
The merger of two custom points means in other words that Kosovar citizens and all merchandise that have as a destination Kosovo will be checked only in the Port of Durres, avoiding the controls in the Morine-Vermice border crossing.
Prime Minister Rama said that the project for merging the custom points has been criticized by many skeptics, but in his words Rama declared that “our joint vision is clear and our determination is proving that we are contributing in realizing our joint dream; that one day all Albanians will live together in a joint space where a nation will work as two legislative states. These efforts and visions will be soon displayed and reinforced in our upcoming joint meeting of the two governments, in March of this year.”
In addition, Prime Minister Rama declared that the joint meeting will focus in discussing the creation of a joint market and other joint projects in infrastructure, education, culture, ect. Some of our joint projects have been put in life, said Rama, and the joint customs transit is a heavy stone in the constitution of a joint future for all Albanians.
In turn, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Isa Mustafa praised the excellent relations between the two countries, adding that joint transit customs will serve businesses and citizens for in many beneficiary ways for them.
“We are inaugurating a joint agreement between the two government and we hope these agreements to continue and implement as a proof of our tight cooperation. The economic cooperation will be an expression of our wide cooperation, a proof that shows our joint journey towards European integration. This agreement will have positive effects in fighting fiscal evasion and reduce procedures in the aspect of fiscal efficiency. Kosovo is interested in cooperating further in these projects,” stated Kosovar Prime Minister.
