Minister of Energy Damian Gjiknuri held a meeting with the new USA ambassador to Albania, Donald Lu, and discussed with him the current situation of the energy sector and the undertaken measures for the recovery of this sector.
“Decent Albanian citizens are supporting measures undertaken in this sector and the rule of law regarding energy consumption. The reform in the energy sector is very difficult and needs time in order to give its effects. We are doing the most to have a better situation and that in 2018 to not have financial loss,” said Gjiknuri.
In turn, USA ambassador Donald Lu considered the energy reform as very important and ambitious, and also praised the drastic increase of deposits of citizens for the electrical energy, which will improve the sector very soon.
He guaranteed the Albanian Minister about USA’s support regarding this reform and also stressed the assistance of USAID.
He also spoke about TAP pipeline project, considering it as a very important project for the economic development of Albania and region in general. “TAP Pipeline puts Albania in a strategic position and changes the energy map,” stated Lu. In his opinion, Albania offers much potential which may be interesting for American investors.
The two high ranked officials also spoke about the increase of American investments in country, mainly in hydrocarbons sector, energy and mining industry.
