The decrease of oil price in the international market has caused polemics and debates all over the world among experts, politicians and analysts. But this phenomenon seems that hasn’t affected the Albanian oil market, since the prices of oil and its products have not decreased and still remain high.
Erjon Brace, the head of parliamentary Economy Commission declared in a press conference that this situation of high prices doesn’t come due to the increase of taxes by the government, but as a consequence of the absence of competition in the market.
“There are only three companies currently operating in the oil market in Albania, which control the market and impose unfair high prices to citizens. They justify these abusive moves by saying that the advertising tax and local taxes have increased their production costs, and this is the reason the oil price is not decreasing. Taxes are not deterring the decrease of price because the oil price in pumps has decreased despite taxes,” said Brace.
The press office of the Democratic Party, currently the mayor opposition party in country has declared continuously that the increase of circulation tax by 10% is affecting in the maintenance of high oil prices at times when the oil price in the international market has decreased at record levels.
