Albanian ambassador to Croatia Ilir Melo held the first meeting of 2015 with the President of Croatia’s Economic Chamber, Luka Burilovic. The Albanian ambassador highlighted the importance of Croatian companies which invest in Albania or seek to invest in country. “We must increase efforts in order to transform our excellent political relations into beneficial economic collaboration,” declared Melo during the meeting.
In turn, president of Croatia’s Economic Chamber underlined the importance of well planned activities between the two countries, in order to increase interest towards investors to enhance economic collaboration since, according to him, the current indicators of economic collaboration between Albania and Croatia are at low levels.
The two officials agreed on signing a joint memorandum of Understanding between Tirana’s Chamber of Commerce and Croatia’s Economic Chamber which will be the basis of a new economic collaboration phase, aiming to increase trade exchanges in the future. The joint MOU will be signed no later than 3 months after this meeting, was announced.
The signing of MOU will be followed by a Joint Albania-Croatia Economic Commission during which Albanian and Croatian high officials in the finance and business sectors and business representatives, will discuss on the possibilities of joint collaboration. According to the Albanian ambassador, the commission will be focused in investments in fields of infrastructure, tourism, agriculture and energy. The event will be held in Tirana capital and many Croatian businessmen will visit the country to see for investment opportunities.
Another project which was discussed was the set of a ferry line which will connect the city of Durres with Sibenik Croatian city, which will boost trade exchanges and a shorter way for tourists.
Initiators of this meeting between the Albania ambassador to Croatia and the President of Croatia’s Economic Chamber were Mr. Stjepan Safran, president of Metal Product company, which currently is seeking to invest in the Albanian market, and representatives of Cro-Team group of companies which currently are investing in Albania.
