Along with the entering in force of the new fiscal package and Budget 2015, has entered in force the new Customs Code, on January 1. The new code is conducted to clarify the procedures for Economic Operators (businesses) and Customs administration as well, with the aim to improve and streamline the rules and customs procedures.
Changes in the Customs Code have been made by taking into consideration the claims and proposals of Albanian businesses and citizens as well, according to the government. It also focuses on harmonizing the decision making, more efficient customs procedures as well as unification of a number of rules and approaches which have been so far applied case by case.
The code defines actions which guarantee transition into a paperless electronic environment for customs as well as provisions to incorporate customs procedures for Authorized Economic Operators, (AEO), including centralized clearance through customs.
