Tourism sector during 2014 developed rapidly since the number of tourists coming to Albania for the first time, increased by 25%, compared to figures of 2013. The Minister of Tourism Eglantina Gjermeni declared these figures during her first interview for 2015.
According to the Minister “the summer touristic season had a positive performance in the past year. Tourism experts and travel agencies reported that the number of new tourists increased significantly but an important fact is that tourists extended their time spent in Albania. Following these figures, even the amount of money allocated by this sector has increased, circa 30% more than those in 2013.”
The Minister also underlined that the government has given a high importance to the ease of visa procedures for tourists from regional countries, such as Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro.
“All those who once visited Albania, came back again. The wonderful natural beauties of our country fascinate tourists and important international newspapers which continually write about Albania and its pristine nature,” declared the Minister.
Gjermeni added that tourism is being seen more and more as the future of economic growth in Albania, as the developing motor of country’s economy and a main factor in decrease of unemployment, but there is still work to be done and public investments as well. “The Ministry of Tourism is working constantly for a successful summer season in 2015”, stated Gjermeni.
Apart from the summer season, the Minister stressed the development of winter tourism in Albania in recent years, a promising and intriguing way for foreigners to invest and entertain.
