“All businesses whose production standards do not comply with EU production and trade standards will be excluded from the market.” This is what the Minister of Agriculture declared during his speech at the first conference of the National Authority of Food, entitled “The consolidation of the Food Security, a Challenge for the Future”.
Minister Edmond Panariti declared that the government is undertaking a reform which will increase the food security in Albania. Except from several improvements, the reform predicts coercive measures that will be applied to all businesses which do not meet the required food and production standards.
Panariti said that Albanian producers should not apply standards set since in 1987 but only the EU standards. The reform, according to the Minister, will give the opportunity businesses to accomplish what is required at a certain deadline.
The National Authority of Food is created in 2010 as a controlling institution for all businesses that operate in the food and beverages sector. The General Director of NAF, Afrim Bakaj highlighted the fact that the balance sheet of NAF work is positive regarding the increase of the food security and the normalization of trade situation for costermongers.
