Albania will receive a 5 million EUR fund by the Kuwaiti government, which will be used to finance a series of prior projects in key sectors, in order to finalize the required reforms by the EU. The news was announced during an official meeting at the Prime Ministry headquarters between the Kuwaiti ambassador to Albania, Najeeb Al-Bader, and the Albanian Deputy Prime Minister, Niko Peleshi.
Najeeb Al-Bader declared that the allocation of this fund is very important and comes as part of the continuous support Kuwaiti government has shown to Albania. The Kuwaiti ambassador said that his government evaluates the engagement and efforts of the Albanian government to strengthen the rule of law, democracy, the reforms in the judiciary system, the war against corruption and other necessary reforms which contribute in the Albania’s EU integration process.
In turn, the Deputy PM Niko Peleshi declared that Kuwaiti has invested circa $75 million in Albania, in several projects, in the framework of “Kuwaiti Fund for Economic Development”. These investments, according to Peleshi have financed projects in road infrastructure and transport, irrigation system and other projects in key sectors. Peleshi emphasized the support Kuwaiti government has shown to Albania since 1993, the date when Albania-Kuwaiti collaboration started.
Peleshi also announced the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Edi Rama to Kuwaiti on November 18, 2014, with the aim to enhance cooperation in fields of mutual interest and in the consolidation of bilateral relations between the two countries.
