The Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha has criticized the new fiscal package contents by arguing that groups of interests’ claims have not been taken in consideration by the current government. The head of the biggest opposition party in Albania has invited all citizens to attend the DP’s protest on November 22th, “as a way to oppose the new Budget 2015 which predicts a high increase of taxes”, according to Basha.
Groups of interest representatives and the head of Chamber of Commerce, Nikolin Jakaj, have asked Basha to protect their interests and to lobby in the next Assembly session in order to prevent the adoption of this draft-budget by parliament. Their request has received a negative response since Basha urged them to join the protesters on November 22th.
In a press conference, Basha declared: “We are very concerned about the current situation and the continuity of it, if this fiscal package will approve by parliament. The Budget 2015 predicts an increase of taxes that will have negative effects for all of us. Albanian citizens will have to pay 670.000 ALL more this year, compared to the current taxes they pay. The current ruling party is attempting to avoid consults and discussions regarding the budget and the fiscal package. We are not here to give lessons to the majority but we come here being responsible even for the past, highlighting what we did well, but also by showing responsibility for what we did wrong.”
The economic policies applied by the leftist government whose core is the progressive tax, will destroy the country’s economy, added Basha. Democratic Party of Albania is the biggest opposition party in the Albanian parliament and has since several months boycotting the Assembly’s sessions by not attending them.
