The Albanian delegation of the Ministry of Tourism, headed by the Minister of Tourism Eglantina Gjermeni, attended the World Travel Market event on November 4-6, a leading international event for the tourism and travel fields. Albania presented its touristic potentials in a 80 square meters stall, maintained by the National Agency of Tourism.
Minister of Tourism presented during the “Albania, your destination for tourism and investments” conference, the latest initiatives and policies undertaken by the Albanian government in order to boost tourism and improve the business climate for foreign investors. Present in the conference panel along with the Minister were the Executive Director of the World Tourism Organization, Carlos Voleger and the General Director of Tourism at the Ministry of Tourism, Sonja Popa.
Speaking at the conference, Carlos Vogeler underlined the support that the organization he leads has shown continually to the development of tourism in Albania and hailed the governments’ efforts in the promotion of sustainable tourism in Albania. “We are satisfied with all the governmental initiatives and now Albania is a destination in the world map of tourism.”
In turn, the Albanian Minister of Tourism declared that only in the first half of 2014, the country was visited by more than 1 million foreign tourists, equal to 24% more than the last year. “We have noticed an increase of the number of tourists from Poland, Low Countries and Britain. In order to provide low cost flight lines for tourists, we are attempting on opening a new airport in country, said Gjermeni.
The Minister also gave an interview for Travel Channel where she said: “Even why Albania is a small place in the heart of Balkans, it has the potentials to offer active vacations to tourists, a combination of blue tourism, cultural tourism and mountain tourism. The warm hospitality of Albanians and the rich traditional culinary are other reasons to visit Albania.”
World Travel Market is one of the most international events in the field of travel and tourism, which is annually attended by travel specialists, international journalists and leading travel agencies from all the world.
