The Albanian government has been sued at the Arbitrage Court by Rapiscan company. On April 2013, the company was chosen by the previous government run by Democratic Party as the winning company of a 10 year monopoly for the stamp scanning tender for the Albanian Customs.
Rapiscan claims that the company has fulfilled all agreement requests but the current government, run by Socialist Party, considers the agreement as invalid and incomplete. The indictment of Rapiscan against the Albanian government consists in the request for $359 million compensation to the company. After the publication of the news, the Albanian State Advocacy made an appeal to all legal studios in country to apply in order to be selected to assist Albania in this dispute.
The current government pretends that Rapiscan company cannot operate in Albania since many business representatives have claimed that the company’s services will increase the costs for businesses and harm the economy. The arbitrate request of Rapiscan company has been submitted at the International Chamber of Commerce in August 2014.
