“Managing Seasonality in Tourism” international conference took place in Tirana capital, organized under the auspices of Ministry of Tourism and the World Tourism Organization, on October 20th. Participants in the conference were the Albanian Minister of Tourism, Eglantina Gjermeni, the Secretary-General of the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization, Taleb Rifai, regional high officials in the tourism sector and tourism experts.
Considering tourism as a linking bridge between countries and a main factor in the economic growth of a country, Minister of Tourism Eglantina Gjermeni, highlighted the country’s efforts to develop and improve further this important economic sector.
“Albania is making intensive efforts to develop a sustainable and responsible tourism. Albania has infinite potentials, models that can serve to reduce the effects of seasonality, to increase the number of tourists and the duration of their stay in Albania,” declared Minister of Tourism, Eglantina Gjermeni. We are working hard to revive the tradition, strengthen local capacities, improve services and increase public investments, she added. We are aware of that fact that we should develop a model that combines economic growth with social development and sustainable management of natural resources.
In turn, the Secretary-General of World Tourism Organization, Taleb Rifai, emphasized the Albania’s opportunities and capacities to host a high number of tourists by saying that their number still remains at low levels and estimated the progress of Albania in this field.
“We are here with all your neighbors to express the support and trust in the future of the tourism in Albania and the great role tourism can play in the socio-economic development of the country,” stated Rifai.
