The International Monetary Fund delegation headed by Nadeem Ilahi, the fund’s mission chief for Albania, ended its two weekly visit in Albania on September 8th , after a scanning of public finances. During their stay in Tirana, the IMF delegation had meetings with high officials of several important institutions, such as officials of Ministry of Integration, Bank of Albania, Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Institute of Statistics and officials of Customs.
The focus of these meetings were the macroeconomic situation in country, the course of development and perspectives, inflation rate, the performance of incomes and taxes, the repayment of the outstanding debts and other issues. During their talks, the IMF representatives discussed regarding the important upcoming reforms in the energy sector, reforms on pensions, foreign direct investments and the expected economic performance in the next years. The IMF delegates were in favor to increase of the energy price next year.
It was announced that after the finishing of the discussions, the IMF delegation, headed by Nadeem Ilahi, would held a joint press conference with the Albanian Minister of Finances Shkelqim Cani, the Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Arben Ahmetaj and the new Bank of Albania’s governor Elisabeta Gjoni, but the conference was cancelled and they had a closing meeting.
The latest visit of IMF delegation is part of the cooperation memorandum and the three year agreement at a value of 331 ml EUR between Albania and IMF. The delegation has announced their next visit in Albania in the upcoming months to discuss regarding the budget of 2015.
