Albanian Government Raises the Costs for Online Products Over €22

The Albanian government has taken another step that puts Albania behind regarding online shopping. The instruction by the National Directory of Customs (DPD) that has entered into force a few weeks ago, is affecting the pockets of Albanian customers. According to the new rule, the citizens will be taxed for the items that have worth more than €22.
The instruction by the Customs says that if an item sold online for and received by an Albanian citizen through postal service, will be considered insignificant worth if the value of the item is less than €22, so the customer will not be charged additional taxes.
But if the worth of the item sold online is more than €22, and if for instance the cost of transportation is €5, then the receiver will be taxed for the costs of transportation because it is not considered an insignificant value.
In 2016, it came into force a law that said for products bought online customers will be charged a tax for added value (in Albanian T.V.SH.) and customs taxes. If it is surpassed the limit of taxation, than the customer will pay altogether taxes of 22.4% of the product’s worth (20% T.V.SH. and 2.4 customs taxes). This has affected largely and worsened the market of online shopping in Albania.
