Over 82% of TAP Project Completed

TIRANA, November 13

“The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) pipeline construction is well underway. About 82percent of the project is completed and we are well on track & on time to start operations in 2020,” AzerNews reported early this Tuesday based on a message received by TAP AG consortium.

Progress and facts about TAP in Albania

TAP project will transport gas from the fields of Shah Deniz in Azerbaijan to Italy and further to the European Union (EU) countries. It is worth Euro 4.5 billion and will be 878 km long divided into 550km in Greece, 215km in Albania, 105 km on the Adriatic Sea, and 8 km in Italy.
The work for the offshore section has started on October 19. The completion of the project is expected in 2020. Based on the available data 13,000 pipes were used in the Albanian section of the pipeline.
TAP’s marshaling yard, the place where the pipes were stored, in Durres has the size of ten football pitches. The first steel pipes were shipped to Albania in April 2016.

Pipes shipment to Albania was completed in October 2017.
Over 200,000 tons of pipes, machinery, and equipment have been delivered to Durresi Port between April 2016 and October 2017.
The deepest point of the pipeline in the offshore section will be 820 meters below the Adriatic Sea level.
Till November 2017, over 210 sites and cultural monuments were discovered near the pipeline route. Several important discoveries were made, dating from the early Neolithic period to the 18th century, mainly in the area of Korca, Skrapari, and Berat. In May 2017, TAP uncovered an ancient settlement near Korça and, in July 2016, discovered a column capital part of 6th century AD religious monument.
