The cultivation of tobacco has been an old tradition in middle of Albania but in the last decades this tradition extinguished as a lack of investments by the government and by the strong competition of international tobacco companies. But, lately it is noticed a revival of the tradition, especially in Dumre commune and Librazhd district.
One of the latest investments in the tobacco industry is made by Mikail Cano who has spent 23 years as an emigrant in Italy and now he returned in his hometown. He has established a farm for the cultivation of tobaccy in which he has planted about 15 hectares with tobacco sailings in the Dores village, Librazhd.
“In this area, the cultivation of tobacco will help in the reduction of unemployment and the increase of the welfare for many families”, says Cani. In his opinion, the type of tobacco cultivated in Dores village is of a high quality. The sailings are imported from Italy.
The Dores locals have expressed satisfaction for this important investment for the area because this has opened many jobs. The investor Cani has utilized the barren lands in this area to create a modern farm. He aims to expand the farm by 10 hectares more planted land.
