The Albanian government and World Bank signed an loan agreement, based on which Albania will take 7.5 million EUR to start an environmental services project. The loan agreement was signed by the Albanian Minister of Environment Shkelqim Cani and Tahseen Sayed, World Bank specialist. According to a World Bank press release, “this project supports sustainable land management and aims to increase communities’ incomes in erosion prone rural upland areas”.
This environmental project is co-founded by the World Bank, the Swedish government by a trust fund of 7.3 million EUR and the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) which gave a 2.2 million EUR fund.
Albanian farmers, forest and environmental associations, as well as individuals who are part of environmental projects will benefit from this environmental project. The project will implement in 310 rural communes and 2,980 villages in the country. The costs of this project are estimated to be no less than 16.8 million EUR.
