TIRANA, September 14
The 100 Villages programs had an impact on the number of subjects interested in the establishment of agrotourism centers, inns, and incubators that meet the food safety standards in domestic premises. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural development Ermira Gjeci confirmed for the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) that a total of 44 applications have been submitted. This figure is three times higher compared to the applications submitted during 2017.
It seems that financial support through incentives and fiscal schemes were are the key factors that are encouraging people to invest in agro-tourism and in the accommodation sectors in the rural areas. A fund of Euro 2.5 million allocated for rural development and economic diversification, the value-added tax (VAT) cut to six percent, the five percent income tax and the exemption from infrastructure impact tax had their initial impact.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, agrotourism is an option to add value to agricultural production, employment, and welfare in the Albanian Villages.
