TIRANA, May 29
For the first time in Albania, one single power plant facility will be used for renewable energy generation from two different sources of energy.
The Albanian Power Corporation (KESH), the largest producer of hydroelectricity in the region will begin the implementation of innovative projects on the reduction of energy production costs.
KESH projects to construct a floating photovoltaic plant with a surface of 118,000 square meters over Vau i Dejes Lake, Shkodra area. KESH aims at saving land surface and at the same time, to maximize the exploitation of solar power.
KESH explains that the installation of photovoltaic plants requires large land surface. Thus, in order to preserve land and water resource, KESH considers the installation of photovoltaic plants on the surface of Vau i Dejes reservoir. This location has many advantages compared to land photovoltaic plants in terms of energy efficiency. Moreover, the presence of the plant will have an impact on the lake ecosystem as it will prevent algae growth and also improve the water quality. The installed power of the photovoltaic plant will be 12.9MW
