TIRANA, March 27
The National Council on European Union Integration discussed on Monday the European Commission guideline for the Western Balkans. Albanian Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati said that Albania awaits the opening of negotiations with the European Union in April.
He highlighted that the Albanian authorities hope that the European Commission would give the green light for opening the negotiations while the justice reform is going to set a new standard for the countries of the region.
On her part, head of the EU Delegation to Albania Romana Vlahutin said that the countries of the region continue to face challenges and the rule of law is the key element that brings them closer to the EU accession.
Moreover, she added that the opening of negotiations will not be a gift, but an instrument for making further progress. Ambassador Vlahutin highlighted that Albanian made an extraordinary work with the justice reform, but the next months will be more intensive.
Regarding the socio-economic sector, she added that the EU will introduce a new scheme that will encourage private investments.
