Albania has Lowest Minimum Wage in Europe

In January 2018, Albania had the lowest gross minimum wage (before the deduction of tax and social security contributions) among EU member and candidate countries, of Euro 181 per month, Eurostat confirmed in a recent publication.
Eurostat divides the EU member countries into three categories depending on the level of wages, lower than Euro 500 per, month, at least Euro 500 but lower than Euro 1,000, and at least Euro 1,000 per month.
According to Eurostat findings, minimum wages in EU countries located in the east ranged from Euro 400 to Euro 500, the minimum wages for countries in the south of the EU ranged from Euro 600 to Euro 900 while the minimum wages for countries in the west and north of the EU were above Euro 1,400.
Regarding the EU candidate countries, minimum wages ranged from Euro 181 in Albania to Euro 446 in Turkey.
In the meantime, it was noticed that the highest minimum wage (Luxembourg Euro 1,999) in the 22 EU countries that use this indicator was eight times higher than the lowest (Bulgaria Euro 261 per month).
