TIRANA, February 14
Jointly-managed farms by a group of farmers in Albania will be exempt from the Value Added Tax (VAT) since the upcoming week. This was confirmed by Minister on Wednesday by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Niko Peleshi during a meeting he had with students of the Agricultural University of Tirana. He highlighted that the government will encourage cooperation between small farmers in order to boost development and welfare among small farmers.
“VAT was the least obstacle to farmers’ cooperation. On the other hand, joint farms will receive 25-50 percent more support from the schemes on support to agriculture and agriproducts,” Peleshi said.
Moreover, he presented another initiative that aims at launching a network of shops that sell traditional Albanian products. Yet the Albanian farmers, need information and training on marketing. Peleshi said that there is much to be done concerning marketing.
