Moglica Hydro Power Plant (HPP) one of the two HPPs in Devoll River cascade will strengthen the energy capacities in Albania. It is the second major project of Devolli Hydropower, which along with the Trans Adriatic Pipeline have been the largest sources of foreign investments in Albania during the recent years. The site was inspected on Monday by Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Damian Gjiknuri.
According to the representatives of Statkraft, the next phase of the project will start in 2018 after the construction of the dam and by the end of 2019, the project will be completed.
Moglica HPP will have an installed capacity of 256 MW and it will increase the overall power generation of Albania by 17 percent. The dam will be connected to the power plant via an 11 km long tunnel. In the meantime, the dam of this project is the highest of its kind in the world.
Currently, some 1,400 people are working on this project. Besides the two HPPs, the company has invested Euro 60 million in the road infrastructure thus providing better access to the inhabitants of the area.
According to the company, the investment for these two projects is estimated Euro535 million and the investment decision for a third power plant will be taken into consideration after the construction of Moglica HPP.
