Albania’s construction sector enjoyed a fast growth during this year and the official data provided by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) confirm this fact. The sales volume in the second quarter (Q2) rose by 33.9 percent compared to the second quarter of 2016. Meanwhile, the sales volume in the first quarter grew by 41.3 percent.
In the meantime, the production index increased by 32.9 percent for April-June compared to the second quarter of 2016 and ten percent compared to the first quarter.
Growth in the construction activity resulted in a higher number of people working in the sector. Employment rose by 3.4 percent during Q2 while payroll employment rose by 12.2percent.
The growth trend in the sector was confirmed since the first quarter of the year. A total number of 101 construction permits were issued during January-March 2017 and the value of investments was Lek 11 billion. They consist of funds for residential buildings and commercial buildings such as hotels commercial and industrial center. Meanwhile, a total fund of Lek 1.2 billion was invested in public works during the first quarter of 2017.
