TIRANA, July 25
Specific projects in four cities, Berat, Permet, Gjirokastra, and Saranda will be implemented in the frame of the Project for Integrated Urban and Tourism Development (PIUTD) by the Albanian Development Fund. The Government of Albania has received financing from the World Bank (WB) for PIUTD. The purpose of this project is to improve urban infrastructure, to encourage sustainable tourism and economic development, and to improve the living conditions in Southern Albania. Over 84,000 inhabitants and more than 300,000 tourists are expected to benefit from this project. It will be implemented over a period of five years and it has three main components that include, urban planning and infrastructure, tourist sites amelioration, the tourism marketing and product development.
The specific projects in each of the cities include the following interventions.
Berat
Rehabilitation of Mihal Komneno cobblestone road to Berat Castle
Upgrading of Muzak Topia vehicle access road to Berat Castle.
Permet
Street and monument lighting in the historic center area
Gjirokastra
Bazaar cobblestone road rehabilitation
Ali Pasha Trail and slope stabilization
Street and monument lighting in the historic center area
Saranda
Urban Regeneration of existing Promenade “Naim Frasheri”
The Albanian Development Fund has launched the requests for expression of interest for the above-mentioned projects.
