Stakeholders Sit Together to Talk about Call-Centres Delocalization

Even though talks about the delocalization of call-centres, which is expected to have a major impact in Albania, began in Italy in October, the Albanian government didn’t react until Thursday. The Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and entrepreneurship gathered in a meeting representatives from the Ministry of Social Welfare and youth and stakeholders.
Monitor magazine says that according to confidential sources, the goal of the meeting was to find lobbying strategies to the Italian government. Moreover, the same sources said that the Albanian side, represented by entrepreneurs, will send an official letter to the Italian Senate and to Federica Mogherini, who is the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.
The Italian government is trying to strengthen measures against the delocalization of call centres outside the country and EU. This phenomenon caused an employment crisis and continuous decrease in the profit margin.
The drafters of those changes to the law foresee a double intervention that includes both inbound and outbound services, and tough rules regarding the regulation of delocalization of call centres. Moreover, harsh administrative sanctions such as fines up to Euro 150,000 are foreseen.
The adoption of this law would have serious consequences in Albania, where over 25,000 people, mostly youth work in this sector.
