The Italian government will provide institutional support and expertise for the Albanian sectors of agriculture and fishing. This was agreed after an official meeting that Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Water Administration Edmond Panariti held with Italian counterpart Maurizio Martina in Rome during the weekend. Both ministers signed the agreement that paves the way for the implementation of joint projects and more Italian investments in the above-mentioned sectors. The agreement also includes insurance schemes in agriculture, more investments in the fruticulture and fishing sectors.
Moreover, the agreement says that Italy is committed to supporting Albania with institutional expertise on the opening of the EU accession negotiations. The agreement will also bring more direct investments to Albania. Italy is one of the main partners and supporters of Albania in the path towards EU accession.
Moreover, Minister Panariti also held a meeting with the Administrator of the US Office for Agriculture in Southeastern Europe and the American in Rome, Fred Giles. They discussed the modernization of tracing methods in the fishing sector, and other projects for supporting agriculture in poor areas in Albania, as well as the sector of olive cultivation and olive oil productions. On his part, Administrator Giles said that his office will provide the required support by the Albanian side.
